Generate Virtual ID (VID) Online
Protect your privacy. Don’t share your real Aadhaar number. Generate a temporary 16-digit Virtual ID instantly for safe KYC verification.
🔐 Generate VID NowWith increasing concerns about data privacy, UIDAI introduced the Virtual ID (VID) system. A VID is a temporary, revocable 16-digit random number mapped with your Aadhaar number. It allows you to authenticate transactions (like e-KYC) without revealing your permanent Aadhaar number.
Why Use Virtual ID?
Your original 12-digit Aadhaar number remains hidden from the service provider.
You can change your VID anytime. Generating a new one automatically expires the old one.
Accepted for SIM cards, Bank Account opening, and Passport renewal KYC.
How to Generate or Retrieve VID?
Go to the myAadhaar Portal and login using your Aadhaar Number and OTP.
Click on the “VID Generator” option from the dashboard menu.
- Generate New VID: If you want a fresh number.
- Retrieve VID: If you forgot your existing VID.
Click “Next”. Your 16-digit Virtual ID will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can I use VID for getting a new SIM card?
Yes, as per Department of Telecom (DoT) rules, telecom operators must accept VID for e-KYC verification instead of the Aadhaar number.
Q2. Is there a limit to how many VIDs I can generate?
There is no strict limit, but you can only have one active VID at a time. Generating a new one invalidates the previous one.
Q3. Does VID expire automatically?
No, a VID remains valid until you generate a new one. UIDAI initially set a 1-day expiry but now it stays active until replaced.
Q4. Can I generate VID via SMS?
Yes. Send an SMS to 1947: GVID [Last 4 digits of Aadhaar] from your registered mobile number.
